Padaungiella nebeloides (Gautier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958) Lara et Todorov, 2011

Difflugia nebeloides Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958

Diagnosis: The shell is yellowish or light brown, pyriform, slim and elongate, rounded aborally and tapering evenly from just anterior of the one third body region towards the aperture, forming a distinct neck. It is circular in transverse section, and is composed of a mixture of predated or collected oval, circular (from Euglyphida) and quadrangular shell plates (from Quadrulella symmetrica). These ‘kleptoidiosoms’ are usually arranged haphazardly and overlap. Occasionally, small to medium flattish pieces of quartz are included between siliceous shell plates, but they are so arranged to give a smooth appearance of the shell. Organic cement is seen frequently between shell components, and small single pores with a diameter of about 200-250 nm are often seen in the cement. The aperture is roughly circular or with irregular outline, and is surrounded by a thick collar of organic cement, which is characterized by its uneven and undulating rim. In cysts the test is sealed by a detrital plug at the junction of the fundus and the neck. The cell self is encased in a transparent organic cyst wall.

Dimensions: Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas (1958): Length 118-140 µm, width 35-45 µm, pseudostome 17-20 µm; Todorov and Meisterfeld (2011): Length 113-140 µm, width 43-54 µm, pseudostome 17-21 µm.

Ecology: Wet Sphagnum mosses. Congo, Bulgaria, Austria, Germany.
