Peranema near a cyst of Asterocaelum sp.
Peranema feeding on cysts of Asterocaelum
In August 2016 I had a number of cysts of an Asterocaelum species in wet mounts kept in a moisture chamber. One day I observed a Peranema specimen making a hole in a cyst wall and feeding on its content. Later I could observe more Peranema specimens feeding on other cysts.

This video shows two Peranema cells. They make a hole in the cyst and suck its content. You can see how granules from the cyst are moving into the Peranema.
