Difflugia corniculata Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958

Diagnosis: Test pyriform, compressed, in cross-section oval. In front view, the fundus at both sides with a rounded horn; both horns are separated from each other by a neat bow formed by an inward inflection of the fundus. Pseudostome circular. Test embedded with certainly reworked xenosomes mixed with siliceous platelets; cement colorless and transparent. Cytoplasm, pseudopods and nucleus unknown.

Dimensions: Height 135-145 µm; width 92-110 µm; thickness 125-130 µm; pseudostome 20-23 µm.

Ecology: Freshwater, Africa.

Remarks: According to Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958, this species shows some resemblance to D. ivorensis, but the disposal of the horns is very different. It also has some resemblance to the shape of D. varians Playfair 1917, but it is easily distinguished by its well marked neck. Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958 consider the form of Playfair a variety, not D. varians, but D. leidyi Wailes 1912.
