Difflugia oblonga, drawing from Ehrenberg, 1838. All tests represent the same specimen.

Difflugia oblonga varieties

Difflugia oblonga angusticollis Stepanek, 1952

Test pyriform. Main body turns sharply into a long (1/3 of the total length) neck. Neck close to the aperture somewhat narrowed. Test covered with large mineral grains of different size.
Length 315-367 µm, width 175-210 µm, length of the neck 90-100 µm, width of the neck 72-90 µm.

Difflugia oblonga caudata Stepanek, 1952

Test pyriform, strongly constricted in the anterior part, and enlarged again towards the pseudostome. Fundus with a long spine. Covered with large mineral grains. Pseudostome round. Length 287 µm, width 105 µm, pseudostomal diameter 90 µm, length of the spike is 45 µm.

Difflugia oblonga schizocaulis Stepanek, 1952
Test pyriform, covered with mineral particles of different size. Fundus usually with 2 asymmetrically located outgrowth, of which 1 is located along the main axis of the test, and the other is eccentric. Both outgrowth of different size. Pseudostome round.
Length 175-332 µm, width 87-122 µm.

Difflugia oblonga incondita Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958
Test differs from the typical form by a narrower pseudostome. Test narrows towards the pseudostome, forming a short neck.
Length 195-245 µm.

Difflugia oblonga stepaneki (Stepanek, 1952) Decloitre (D. oblonga vas Stepanek)
Test dark brown, covered with mineral grains of different size. Test very large, with a distinct long neck that extends to the pseudostome. Similar to D. oblonga caudata, but without thorn.
Test 420 µm, width 160 µm, apertural diameter 88 µm.

Difflugia oblonga cornuta Leidy, 1879
Test elongated, neck distinctly separated from the main body. Fundus with 2 symmetrically located spines. Pseudostome round.
Length 200 µm.
