Difflugia sinuata

D. sinuata, after Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958

Difflugia sinuata Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas, 1958

Diagnosis: Test ovoid, more or less elongated, truncated right to the pseudostome; in cross-section slightly oval by a weak flattening. The fundus possesses one, rarely two tubular hollow, cylindrical, very short prolongations of endogenous nature; the end of this horn or spine is provided with one, sometimes two, exogenous stones, generally sharp. Test covered with small and thin xenosomes, embedded in a brownish cement giving its color to the entire test. Pseudostome irregularly lobed. Cytoplasm, nucleus and pseudopodia not observed.

Dimensions: Total height: 249 – 289 μm; width: 155-189 μm; pseudostome: 83-85 μm.

Ecology: Freshwater, river; Central Congo, Africa.

Remarks: Gauthier-Lièvre et Thomas (1958) distinguish D. sinuata var. gigas. This variety, larger than the type, also has a different coating, formed mainly towards the base of large stones that give all a ruder aspect. The pseudostome lobes are better formed, rounded. Observed dimensions: Total height: 360 μm; D = 180 μm. Geographical distribution: With the type.
