Difflugia stechlinensis
Difflugia stechlinensis, from Schönborn, 1962

Difflugia stechlinensis  Schönborn, 1965

Diagnosis: Test with parallel straight sides, hyaline, covered with small quartz granules, which cover the shell incompletely. Pseudostome round, never surrounded by ring-shaped stones or scales. Protoplasm does not fill the entire shell space. Nucleus spherical with central nucleolus. One contractile vacuole was observed. Lobopodia.

Dimensions: Length 29-44 µm; width 22-39 µm; pseudostome 10-15 µm in diameter.

Ecology: Freshwater. The species occurs regularly in the deep of Great Stechlin Lake. It is ecologically different from D. pulex, to which it is certainly related. D. pulex lives in the same waters exclusively in the growth of submerged plants.
