Diagnosis: General locomotive shape while moving is arcade or crescent; peripheral contours change continuously, especially during rapid locomotion, while lateral part expands most. Dimensions variable owing to rapid changes of shape during active locomotion. Ectoplasm thin, at the leading margin with many short, digiform subpseudopodia, up to 3.5 µm long; posterior edge often adheres to substrate with long trailing filaments during locomotion. Endoplasm clear, faintly granular, some light-refractile granules. Uninucleate; nucleus with indistinct outline and central nucleolus; nucleus usually located in the center of the cell. Several contractile vacuoles. Crystals very small. No cysts observed. Floating form irregularly with some distinct tapering pseudopodia.

Dimensions: Locomotive cells c. 50 to 74 µm wide and c. 35 µm long. Nucleus 6.7-9.5 µm in diameter, nucleolus 4.9-6.1 µm in diameter.

Ecology: Freshwater, Crailoo, the Netherlands

Remarks: Observed specimens were covered with a thin layer of debris as is characteristic for Gocevia species. During observation of one specimen in a wet mount, it got rid of this covering, adopted a floating form and after some minutes started to move again, leaving its covering behind. In wet mounts I could also observe empty coverings.

These coverings were left behind. I could observe that an amoeba which was attached to the cover glass, got rid of its covering, adopted a floating form, sank to the object glass and started to move again. The photomicrograph to the right has been stacked.
