Paradermamoeba spec., Huizen, the Netherlands

Genus Paradermamoeba Smirnov & Goodkov, 1993

Diagnosis: Locomotive form flattened and oblong to elongate, between about 50 to 100 µm in length. Distinct anterior hyaloplasm extending as flattened lateral extension towards posterior. Surface of cell without dorsal folds or wrinkles. Nucleus with prominent central nucleolus.
At the ultrastructural level, unique glycocalyx (513 nm thick) composed of closely packed glycostyles. Viewed longitudinally, glycocalyx appears as spiral springs; in transverse sections the tips are as hollow pentagonal structures.
Type species: Paradermamoeba valamo Smirnov & Goodkov, 1993

Ecology: Single species from freshwater and bottom sediments.
