Genus Podostoma Claparède & Lachmann, 1858

Diagnosis: Locomotive form usually between 30 and 60 µm not including the long, thin, active pseudopodium (40 to 50 µm) which can be supported by short conical pseudopodia. The long vibratile pseudopodium extending from the body surface resembles (but is not) a flagellum. It can be extended and retracted rapidly and the cell can change form rapidly. With a temporary uroid. Granular cytoplasm with irregular crystals, a spherical nucleus and a contractile vacuole.
Type species: Podostoma filigerum Claparède & Lachmann, 1858.

Ecology: Freshwater.

Remarks: Same as the genus Flagellipodium described by Bovee (1953).
