Wailesella eboracensis
Wailesella eboracensis, 69 µm long

Genus Wailesella Deflandre, 1928

Diagnosis: shell ovate, brown, reddish-brown or yellow-brown, chitinoid; aperture circular, subterminal; pseudopodia conical; nucleus vesicular, spherical.

One known species.

Wailesella eboracencis (Wailes & Penard, 1911)

Diagnosis: shell ovate, brown, reddish-brown or yellow-brown, chitinoid; aperture circular, subterminal; pseudopodia conical; nucleus vesicular, spherical.

Dimensions: 20-28 µm long. My measurements 22-69 µm, from several locations in The Netherlands and Austria.

Ecology: Sphagnum, mosses and peatbogs. Rare, never abundant.

Remarks: the shell strongly resembles a Trinema shell, but the color makes a quick distinction possible.
