Family Gephyramoebidae Pussard et Pons, 1976

 

Diagnosis: Amoebae often much branched but not plasmodial. Although amoebae can be spatulate in outline, they lack the mass of trailing filaments sometimes found in the Leptomyxidae. Only one genus is known in this family.

 

Genus Gephyramoeba Goodey, 1915

 

Diagnosis: Locomotive form 30 to 300 µm. Often fan-shaped with a long posterior tail, sometimes highly branched but not anastomosing. Does not form plasmodia. Uninucleate. Cysts spherical or ovoid. Monospecific, from soil. Ref. Pussard and Pons (1976).
Type species: Gephyramoeba delicatula Goodey, 1915
