Gibbocarina galeata (Penard, 1890) Kosakyan et al., 2016

Diagnosis: Test elongated in broad lateral view, laterally compressed, with the lateral sides gradually tapering toward the pseudostome. Lateral margins distinctly compressed giving the impression of a thick lateral keel. Because of this, the test is elongated elliptical with a pointed aboral end in profile (narrow lateral view). Two small lateral pores are present, one on each side of the test (sometimes hard to observe) almost at the point where the keel begins. Test colorless, reinforced with siliceous plates seemingly recycled from predated organisms. Test relatively large. Pseudostome linear or slightly curved in broad lateral view, surrounded by a thick organic collar.

Dimensions: L: 180- 283 µm, B: 94-190 µm. Pseudostome 26-51 µm wide.

Remarks: G. galeata is similar to P. carinata and P. marginata in having a lateral margin, but in the two latter species the margin is thin and sharply-pointed. Deflandre (1936) described a new variety of this species, P. g. var. orbicularis, which has a reduced margin and is oval or circular in shape.
