Lecythium granulatus (Schulze, 1875)

The photomicrographs on this page show several specimens of Lecythium granulatus which all came from one sample. Those cells mainly preyed on several species of diatoms. Cell with large diatoms could be very large. In these cells the nucleus is pushed aside by the diatom (see image below).

This specimen showed curious behaviour. The fundus opened and a small speudopodium came out of the cell (see arrow). It moved a little and grew longer, after which it was retracted. It shows the possibility of the membrane to make an aperture.
