Diagnosis: Gauthier-Lièvre & Thomas (1960): “In lateral view this testate amoeba can be mistaken with Difflugia corona Wallich, with which it shares the spherical shape of the test and the hollow horns, and of which it follows the variations (possible absence of horns ). In oral view, the multilobed pseudostome shows just like D. corona teeth that separate the lobes. However, beneath these teeth one sees an irregularly shaped diaphragm. The opening of this kind of diaphragm is of a very large diameter. This irregular diaphragm with wide opening removes this form of true Cucurbitella; though more primitive, its structure is not unlike that of C. megastoma.”

Dimensions: Height with horns 200-230 um; without the horns 175-200 μm; diameter 235-260 μm; horns, average size 30 μm; Pseudostome diameter, tooth to tooth, 80-100 μm.

Remarks: The status of this species is in my opinion very doubtful: it is identical to Netzelia corona! What should be a diaphragm, is nothing but a structure between the teeth which gives the impression of a continuous ring behind them.
