Genus Protocucurbitella Gauthier-Lièvre & Thomas, 1960

Diagnosis: Structure of the test between Difflugia and Cucurbitella: with no collar or a slightly differentiated one. Test resembles in lateral view a Difflugia; in oral view, the lobed pseudostome shows below the teeth a diaphragm with a very wide, roughly circular opening.

Remarks: The status of this genus is in my opinion very doubtful: its type species is identical to Netzelia corona! What should be a diaphragm, is nothing but a structure between the teeth which gives the impression of a continuous ring behind them.
