Saccamoeba limax (Dujardin, 1841)
Diagnosis: Locomotive form slender (L/B c. 4.8); villous bulb common; bipyramidal crystals to about 3.5 µm, seldom more than 30 present, sometimes lost after years in culture; endocytic bacteria in known strains; cup-like surface structures c. 40 nm in diameter; mitochondria never elongate.
Dimensions: 35-85 µm; nucleus 6-11 µm.
Ecology: freshwater, several water types.
