Sphenoderia fissirostris Penard, 1890
Diagnosis: Test ovoid, composed of four, usually transverse rows of large oval scales and a number of smaller scales at the fundus and near the pseudostome; the slit-shaped collar is covered with very small scales, which are hardly visible with lightmicroscopy.
Dimensions: Cash (1915): 28-45 µm long, 20-30 µm wide; pseudostome 8-16 µm; nucleus spherical 10-12 µm in diam. Hoogenraad & De Groot (1940): 28-34 µm; my measurements: 39-54 µm.
Ecology: in wet Sphagnum and other mosses.
