Sphenoderia valdiviana
S. valdiviana, from Chatelain et al, 2013

Sphenoderia valdiviana  Chatelain, Meisterfeld, Roussel-Delif and Lara 2013

Diagnosis:Test acrostome, colorless, fusiform, including different-sized ovoid plates. The largest scales measure about 40% of the total shell length. Scales around the collar terminated in two different levels, four scales protruding giving the appearance of a notch.

Dimensions: Shell dimensions (n=17): length: mean 42.4 µm, width: mean 23.2 µm, length of the collar: mean 4.8 µm, width of the collar (inner): mean 14.7 µm, width of the collar (outer): 13.7 µm, scale dimension: 16.3 µm.

Ecology: Sphagnum, Chili

Remarks: The two species S. fissirostris and S. ovoidea have a similar morphology. However, both can be differentiated by the scales on the first row placed at the same level (in S. valdiviana, scales are inserted at two different levels. Moreover, S. fissirostris has a longer collar and S. ovoidea has a more rounded test and smaller scales.
