Yogsothoth carteri Shishkin and Zlatogursky, 2018

Diagnosis: Individual cells in a colony have a diameter of 9.7-15.2 µm; covered by flattened plate-scales (2.9-3.8 x 1.3-1.8 µm) with an axial rib (2.0-2.8 µm) and inflected margin. The colony is surrounded by a thick layer of pot-like outer scales (1.7-4.0 x 1.4-3.2 x 1.4-3.1 µm) with an axial rib (0.9-2.0 µm) and numerous conical papillae on its outer surface, forming concentric irregular rings. On the reverse side of the scale is a large opening (0.9-2.7 x 0.8-2.3 µm). L/W, L/Hand W/H ratio of scale is respectively 1.08; 1.30; 1.2. L x W of the opening/L x W of the scale ratio is 0.37.

Ecology: Marine. Gulf of Aqaba shore, Israel (N29.50; E34.92).

Remarks: Y. knorrus is very similar to Y. carteri in general features, but has smaller, more elongated and lower volume outer scales with a broader opening. Inner scales of Y. knorrus are smaller and less elongated (L/W ratio 2 in comparison to 3 in Y. carteri).
